John Allcock: Landscape works

The Station

Although John Allcock describes the greater part of his painting as 'landscape' his work occupies an unusual space within that territory. Views in the conventional sense are rare. Instead, his attention is focussed typically upon the detail of rocks or trees.

Rock outcrops attract his attention frequently: but mountains only rarely. Within the broad scope of landscape painting he offers us faces in the crowd—the “physiognomy” of landscape.

John Allcock took early retirement from an academic career in 2001 in order to paint. He has exhibited widely, particularly in the north of England, and has been represented on four occasions in the annual exhibition of the Pastel Society.
